My Role
Project for Google’s UX boot camp, Designer & Researcher
Timeline
June - September 2022
Sewers lack an online presence to collaborate
PROBLEM
As a beginner sewer, I lacked a community to share and receive feedback on my designs with. I’ve come across platforms for purchasing sewing patterns - but none included a space to connect with other creatives.
Build a sewing community
THE SOLUTION
Users want a way to ask questions
USER INTERVIEWS & RESEARCH
I conducted monitored interviews with sewers of all levels. I asked research questions and had participants use a prototype while following a script. I identified the key performance indicators (KPIs) to be:
Use of navigation vs. search: How are users getting to their destination?
Time on task: How long does it take a user to find a pattern?
System usability scale: A questionnaire to receive user feedback
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
What can we learn from the user flow to create an app that is accessible to everyone?
Are there parts of the user flow where the user gets stuck?
Do users find the discussion board useful?
Are there sewing patterns for every level?
Here is the prototype I provided. Give it a try!

CONCLUSION & LESSONS LEARNED
What I would do differently next time
Thank you for reading through my work! This was my first UX project and I am so happy with everything I learned. Here is my takeaway:
Progress over perfection: I learned over time to accept steps towards progress and not become stagnant trying to perfect my designs. It is easy as a designer to get caught in a cycle iterating on your work, but in a real-life scenario, deliverables are needed!
